Situation
As a retired marine first sergeant and a former SWAT team trainer and consultant, Mark Anderton, Little Giant Ladder Systems director of government and military sales knew that tactical assault teams had a need for specialized climbing equipment that had never been addressed. Assault teams often are faced with tubular assaults—assaults on linear targets like buses, trains, small planes and mobile housing units; but mounting an assault on raised targets can be dangerous because it is difficult to get multiple operators in position simultaneously.
Solution
Consulting with several expert sources, the Little Giant R&D team engineered the Velocity™ Assault Ramp™ designed specifically for tubular assaults.
Result
The Assault Ramp features a lightweight, aerospace-grade aluminum alloy with black anodized armor for a subdued, non-reflective finish. Quick-release Rock Locks allow operators to telescope and deploy quickly, allowing tactical teams to rush taller targets faster with more guns on target. The Assault Ramp extends from its 6.5-foot storage height in 1-foot increments to a maximum height of 10.5 feet, and features 4-foot wide rungs, allowing two operators to ascend simultaneously. The Assault Ramp has been specifically engineered for tubular assaults. In addition, the Assault Ramp allows multiple operators to climb over fences, walls, or other obstacles with added speed.
Military and police tactical assault teams all over the world have enthusiastically received the Velocity Assault Ramp because it is a complete, customized solution for one of their most dangerous tasks.
Situation
Little Giant Ladder Systems has worked closely with the U.S. Armed Forces for decades, engineering specific ladders for unique tasks. Working with several armed services, we saw a glaring need for a specialized, extra heavy duty multi-use ladder for aircraft support crews.
Solution
The Little Giant Ladder Systems R&D team designed the Little Giant Aircraft Support Ladder with military aircraft support in mind. The AS Ladder meets stringent MilSpec requirements and is certified FOD (foreign obstacle debris) free. Patented spike ice feet prevent aircrews from slipping on wet, icy tarmacs or hanger surfaces. Heavy duty D-rings allow crews to tie down the ladder to keep it from moving on a shifting deck or to store it securely to a vibrating airframe during flight. Double hinge locks and rubber hinge protectors provide extra safety for crew members and protect the hinges from damage with heavy use. And as a Little Giant Ladder System, the Aircraft Support Ladder offers an unmatched combination of versatility, stability, and ease of storage, a must for any aircraft application.
Results
The Aircraft Support Ladder has now been adopted by every armed service at nearly every aircraft base in the military. Every large military tanker and transport plane in the services has an Aircraft Support ladder assigned and on board at all times. These planes have actually been altered or designed to include a fitted storage compartment for the Little Giant AS Ladder.
Nearly every military fighter jet in the armed services has a Little Giant AS Ladder assigned to it as a standard maintenance tool. The Little Giant Aircraft Support Ladder is now an integral part of nearly all military aircraft operations.
